This family-owned business was started in 1974 by John and Jan Callaghan and operated from their home at 22 O’Shanassy St. They provided electrical and refrigeration service and installations to Sunbury and the surrounding towns.

The business was relocated firstly to their new home in Vaughan St, as it grew, they leased an office at 52 Macedon St, where “The Electric Shop” was born in partnership with John’s brother, Brian who completed his apprenticeship as an electrician with them.

In 1980 they relocated again to larger premises on Brook St that they used as an office. The business grew and in 1984 they relocated yet again to the much larger premises at 41 O’Shanassy St, formerly “Helens Supermarket” where they expanded the retail and appliance repair side of the business.

They continue to operate from there 37 years later, employing 8 staff, most trained in the business.

Over the years they have always employed locally and have successfully trained a large number of electrical apprentices, many of whom have gone on to run their own successful businesses, including son John and brothers Brian and Kevin.

They continue to supply electrical and electronic components, perform appliance repairs, service and installation of electrical and air conditioning in the domestic, commercial and industrial fields.
